Point of Rental's Essentials software can support the entry of customer data by scanning the 2-D driver's license barcode, which is supported in most states. Driver’s license data does not include email or phone numbers, so you must still collect these manually.

At the counter, Point of Rental suggests using a Zebra DS9308 Barcode Scanner for inventory and driver’s license scanning. For inventory scanning, almost any scanner will work as long as it operates in keyboard mode and can be configured to press enter after each scan. Please note:

• The Motorola/Symbol DS9208-DL00004NNWW is the previous model Rental Essentials used. It has been discontinued and is no longer tested and updated.
• If you purchase a non-recommended barcode scanner, it might not work correctly with the Point of Rental system.
