Customising Barcode Location
Kodak has a handy feature that allows you to define the rough locations for the barcode fields on documents. These can be entirely specific to the customer. This means that if the customer has a crystal document, we can tell Kodak to read the section of
the document where the barcodes should be independent. This works well until the user uses barcode labels, as Kofax cannot be told to look or look here.
The scan profile we provide has been adapted to deal with this issue, meaning that Document Type and Document
The number has been changed to “Anywhere” from “Zone” usage.
The rules are as follows:
- Document Type
- Mask: A<2>
- Minimum Length: 1
- Document Number
- Mask: A<12>
- Minimum Length: 3
Note: If these require amendment, you can amend them however, be sure that the mask length adheres to the barcode
being scanned.
Document Export Path
- You will need to configure the path to which the scans will export to ensure that Syrinx will pick up the exported PDF files. Select File from the top left of the Kodak Software.
- Select Job Setup
- Select the Output Tab at the top of the new window
- Select “File(1):PDF”
- Click the Setup button next to the location field on the right-hand side.\
- When the window opens, browse the “Browse” button to the location. Alternatively, paste the link in, ensuring you surround it with quotes. An example is below: Formula: "<Your Document Path>\"<DOC_IDX: Document Type>"\"
Removing Unrequired Scan Profiles
It may be worth removing unrequired scan profiles, to ensure the users only have the option to scan into Syrinx.
- Select File from the top left of the Kodak Software.
- Select Job Setup
- Use the dropdown for Job Name and select one of the other profiles, then click on the trashcan icon.
Other Installation & Setup Tasks
Dymo Label Printer
You will need to install the Dymo Label Printer, much like we used to do for Kodak. The drivers are available either on the CD for the Kodak installation or online from our download site:
Note: Remember to install the drivers first and then plug in the label printer.
- X86: https://www.syrinxusers.co.uk/download/Document%20Scanning/Dymo/x86_Dymo_Drivers.msi
- X64: https://www.syrinxusers.co.uk/download/Document%20Scanning/Dymo/x64_Dymo_Drivers.msi
This needs to be set under the User Options within Syrinx to turn on which labels you want to print and also which printer
you are using.
Scan Folders
The folders for the documents to be placed in (HC/AN/HB, etc.) will need to be created in the export location as normal.
They can either be copied from the CD for the Kodak installation or downloaded from our download site. https://www.syrinxusers.co.uk/Document%20Scanning/Supporting%20Files/DOC_FOLDERS.zip
- username: download
- password: c0nc3pt
These need to be unzipped and placed within the “SQLDataSp\Docs\Scanned Documents” folder so that Kodak can index these files into the folders.
Patch Syrinx Database
Remember to patch the Syrinx database to enable barcodes. The patch is on the CD or obtainable via HCS Support.
Font Files.
You will need to install barcode fonts on all machines with Syrinx installed. When Syrinx prints documents, it will try printing out the barcodes at the top of the documents. Without these, then they will not print. The fonts can be found at the
below location.
https://www.syrinxusers.co.uk/Document%20Scanning/Supporting%20Files/Font%20Files.zip
- username: download
- password: c0nc3pt
These will need:
- Downloading & Unzippin
- Then installing onto the machine, the easiest method is to copy the files into Control Panel > Fonts and then paste
them in.
