Syrinx - Power BI

Syrinx® - Power BI User Guide

Overview: This guide is designed to give you a very basic overview of Power BI.

To access Power BI you will need to navigate to https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-au/ and login using your Microsoft account.

Once you are logged in you will need to navigate to Workspaces and click on the expand arrow. You will then need to click on the relevant workspace for Syrinx. It will most likely be named Syrinx Power BI. You may not have multiple instances.

The refresh times button at the bottom is important. Your Power BI is set to refresh overnight. You can check this by clicking on refresh times. It will display when it last refreshed. If the date isn’t changing, please contact support.

Navigating around Power BI is very simple. Click on the Blue buttons down the side. Once you click on one, you will be presented with more options. In the example below, I clicked on Hire and this is what I now see.

You can go back by clicking the home icon at the bottom of the page.

You can drill down further on the data presented by simply right clicking and selecting Drill through.

When you do Drill through, you will have the option of seeing any of the below.

On my example, I chose 3T excavators and selected Contract details. Power BI will present all of the contracts linked to the excavators. If, for example, you only wanted open contracts, you can either use the filters on the right or you can sort by status by clicking the column.

You can continue to drill through if required and look at invoice details, etc.

You can also change some of the charts if you do not like the appearance. Note that only administrators can do this.

If you click the Edit button at the top, then click on the chart you’d like to change, then go into the visualizations you can select the new chart type.

You then need to go to file and save the change.

Your ribbon contains a few buttons that may be required.

Chat in Teams – This allows you to talk to colleagues about a particular view that you are looking at.

Edit – As described above, this will allow you to edit the dashboards.

Refresh – Refresh will bring any changes you have made through. Remember the main data warehouse is refreshing once a day.
