Launchpad - Configurations Security

Security

Permissions to features and setting Required Fields are set and updated in this feature.  They can be set by Company, Group, or Employee.

There are security settings to display the Security option.  Within the Configuration Area, there is a ‘System’ Area.  This must be set to ‘Allow’.  Then also set the ‘Security option to ‘Allow’.

Security hierarchy

The more specific, the higher a setting is used to control permissions:

  • Employee: This is the most specific setting for a user.  Setting a user to ‘Allow’ or ‘Not Allow’ will trump any Group or Company setting.
  • Group: This is the second level.  If the Employee setting is not set, this is the next set the system will consider.  A user can be a member of multiple Groups.  Any Group with a setting of ‘Allow’ will give the user permissions.
  • Company - This is the third level.  If there are no settings at Employee or Group levels, the system will use the setting here.  This is the final consideration so there is only the option of ‘Allow’ or ‘Not Allow’ at this level.
  • What does ‘no setting’ do?  When you have selected the blank option, this essentially is telling the system to refer to the next highest level.
  • Is it easy to tell which setting is controlling permissions?  The ‘Allow’ or ‘Not Allow’ will be highlighted in green or red respectively giving you a visual indication.

When you are viewing an employee that is also in a group, making a change in the Group column will make a change for the Group and all members of that Group.  The same goes for modifying a Company setting.

You can also navigate to just view Group or Company settings as well:

Search will filter options using the text in the Area Name as well as the Description and Definition of each security option.

Once you have filtered and expanded the Area, you can navigate between Groups and Employees to quickly compare settings.  The search and expanded view remain the same until you change it.
