POR will no longer be recommending any third-party application such as Hamachi. You'll need to speak with your IT Support or purchase options by POR if available for that environment.
Use Remote Desktop to Connect to Your Server
- Download a Remote Desktop app from your tablet’s App Store (e.g., PocketCloud or any RDP client with strong user reviews).
- Get your store’s public IP address by visiting www.whatismyip.com. The IP address will appear in bold at the center of the page.
- Configure port forwarding on your store’s router. This setup varies by router model. Contact a local computer technician for assistance.
Important: Opening port 3389 to all traffic will void your PCI compliance if your credit card system is integrated with POR. Consult your IT team before proceeding.
- Create or choose a user account for remote login. If you use your regular desktop login, no one else can access that terminal while you're connected remotely. To avoid conflicts, use a dedicated remote login.
- Ensure you have all required information:
- Public IP address
- Username
- Password
- Router configuration complete
- Open your Remote Desktop app on your mobile device.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to enter your credentials and connect.
- Launch the Point of Rental software once connected, just as you would from your desktop.
Connect Using LogMeIn Ignition
- Download LogMeIn Ignition from the App Store on your mobile device.
- Visit www.logmein.com on your work computer.
- Create a LogMeIn account and install the LogMeIn desktop software when prompted.
- Return to your mobile device and open the LogMeIn app.
- Sign in using your new account credentials.
- Click Connect to remotely access your work desktop.
- Launch Point of Rental from the remote desktop to use it normally.
Note: This method allows full access to your office PC, not just the Point of Rental software.
Understand VPN and Remote Desktop Setup Requirements
- This method requires custom configuration by a local computer technician.
- It typically involves setting up a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) followed by Remote Desktop access.
- This is a more advanced configuration and is not covered in this article.
Device and Security Considerations
- Remote access compatibility may vary depending on your device model and operating system.
- Point of Rental does not officially support mobile devices for remote access, but many customers use them successfully.
- Always verify whether the selected remote access method complies with your credit card processor’s PCI requirements.
More Information / FAQ
Can I use my existing login to connect remotely?
Yes, but using your regular desktop username will lock out the desktop while you're connected remotely. Use a separate login profile for uninterrupted access.
Do I need to open ports on my router?
Yes. Port forwarding is required for Remote Desktop access. Improper configuration—especially opening port 3389 to all traffic—can violate PCI compliance.
What if I don't know how to configure my router?
Each router model is different. Consult a local IT professional or computer tech
