Set Up and Optimize Delivery Routes Using Map and Grid

 

Learn how to use the Map and Grid feature in Route View to verify delivery addresses, optimize routing sequences, and manage delivery timing based on real-world conditions.

Start a Route Using Route View

Use the Route View to begin planning your delivery routes. You can assign a crew, set start/end points, and define the departure time for each vehicle.

  1. Right-click on the assigned truck in the truck list. 
  2. SelectRoute View from the menu.

     
  3. Set the Route Start, End, and Crew.

    1. Set the Route Start/End – For multi-store systems, select the store location as both the start and end point.
    2. Click Crew to assign personnel and set their start time.
    3. Set the Route Departure Time:
      • Dynamically – The system calculates the departure time automatically.
      • Manually – Select a specific departure time using the time selector on the right.

 

Validate Stops with Map and Grid

After setting up a route, use the Map and Grid tool to validate all stops and visually confirm route accuracy on the map.

  1. In Route View, click Map and Grid.

     
  2. The system displays all route stops on a map using flags.
  3. Each flag includes a pop-up with the stop’s details.
  4. The system automatically validates every address for accuracy.

Note: Once a route is saved, any modifications will turn the route number red

Manage Weight and Size Warnings

Ensure your delivery routes stay within weight and size limits by reviewing automatic warnings provided in the Route View.

  • Overweight Routes:
    • Triggered when total load weight exceeds truck capacity.
    • The affected stop appears in red in the Max Weight column.

  • Oversize Routes:
    • Triggered when an item’s dimensions exceed capacity.
    • The affected stop appears in yellow.
  • Weight dynamically updates as contracts are picked up or dropped off.

Adjust Estimated Arrival Times

Manually adjust stop arrival times to reflect real-world conditions like events, road closures, or heavy traffic.

  1. Ensure the route is opened in Map and Grid.
  2. Double-click the Map Estimated Arrival Time for a stop.
    • Alternatively, right-click the stop and select Adjust drive time.
  3. Enter a new arrival time or an offset in minutes.
    • Gray background and bold font indicate a stop with manually adjusted time.
    • Italic font indicates downstream stops recalculated due to adjustments.
    • If a change causes a stop to cross into a different day, the stop will show as red “multi-day.”

What does it mean when a route number turns red?
It means the route was changed after it was saved. Click the route number to view a log of all modifications.

How do I assign a crew to a truck?
Click Crew in Route View to assign team members and set their start time.

What happens if the route exceeds weight or size limits?
Overweight stops appear in red, and oversize stops appear in yellow in the Max Weight column. Review these indicators to adjust the load before dispatch.

Can I enter a custom departure time?
Yes. Select Manual for Route Departure Time and choose your time using the picker to the right.

Why is a stop showing as multi-day?
When a drive time adjustment moves a stop into the next or previous calendar day, it will appear as a red “multi-day” entry.
