What Is Training Mode or the Training Database?

Training Mode (Training Database) allows you to use Point of Rental with a training database—a separate environment that won’t affect your live data. This is perfect for training new employees, practicing tasks, or testing new features in a safe space.

Why Use the Training Database?

  • No Risk to Real Data
  • You can try anything without worrying about impacting your store’s operations.
  • Realistic Practice Environment
    • The training database is a copy of your real database, updated during your most recent system backup. This means you’ll see actual items, customers, and transactions as they existed at the time of that backup.
  • Clear Visual Difference
    • When you're in the training environment, the background turns bright red with the word “Training” visible, so you always know you're in training mode. In your real database, the background is black.

How to Switch to the Training Database

Follow the instructions for your product.

How the Training Database Gets Updated

The training database updates when you perform a system backup.

To update it, run the backup using the Point of Rental Backup icon on your desktop.

This process copies your current live data into the training environment.

You can safely add, change, or delete records in training mode—none of those changes will affect your real data.

Keep in Mind

  • The training database is a snapshot of your real database at the time of your last backup.

  • Any changes made in training mode stay in training mode and won’t carry over to the live database.
