Prerequisite

Make sure you’ve already imported your tax jurisdictions. Zip codes must be linked to existing jurisdictions, so this step is required before proceeding.

Accessing the Import Tool

⚠️ You should always perform this action in the "Training Database" or in "Training Mode" BEFORE you make changes to live data. There is NO "undo" button in this tool. Proceed cautiously.  To learn more, see our article Training Mode (Training Database)

To begin the import process, follow the path below for your product.

  • Elite: Left menu > Tools > Database Management > Tax Jurisdiction Import
  • Expert: Program Menu > Database Management > Tax Jurisdiction Import

Upload Your File

  1. In the Select Table Group dropdown (near the top-left corner), choose Tax.

  2. Click the Find button to browse for the file you want to import. You can use any of the following file formats: .csv (Comma-Separated Values) and .xls or .xlsx (Excel spreadsheet)

  3. Click Load Sample to preview your data in the top grid.

Map Your Columns

You’ll now match the columns in your import file to the appropriate fields in the system.

Drag the column headers (A, B, C, etc.) from the top grid and drop them onto the corresponding fields in the tree panel on the left.

Example Mapping

ColumnMapped To
ARow Key & Zip Code
BRow Key & Low+4
CRow Key & High+4
DRow Key & Jurisdiction

💡 Tip: You can map a single column to multiple fields if necessary (e.g., Column A as both Row Key and Zip Code).

Setting Values

Active Date can be:

  • Mapped from a column, or
  • Set to a fixed value by right-clicking the field name in the tree and choosing Set Value.
  • You can also clear any mapping by right-clicking and selecting Clear Mapping.

Row Key Definitions

Row Key: Unique identifiers in your import. These fields must not be duplicated.

Jurisdiction: The tax code or name that identifies the tax jurisdiction for the zip code.

Maximum Tax: The maximum tax that can be charged on a contract, based on your state’s regulations.
