Cayan Soft Terminal
Overview
The Cayan soft terminal is available upon request to our support team and requires owner-level authorization because end-to-end encryption is not performed. During the transaction process, TLS 1.2 encryption is used, just not upon entering the card number from the keyboard. Tokenization is still performed so you can perform follow-on transactions without having to re-enter the card number.

Why would a rental store use the Cayan soft terminal?
Really, only accounting departments would have a justified need for it as it can reduce monthly expenses for Genius devices. It allows for manually entered refunds. All transactions are auditable – just like with transactions processed on Genius devices.
Companies with numerous stores that have employees posting account payments for customers that span all stores don’t have to pay for extra Genius terminals for the accounting office. They would use the soft terminal to post credit card payments and refunds.
Address Verification System (AVS) is performed but does not require a zip code match. CVV is performed and, by default, requires a match. This can be disabled in the Parameters > Drawer tab. We recommend leaving this enabled but understand situations where the CVV was not provided for a phone in order. Discretion is advised and operator password authentication is required to make any parameter updates.
PCI compliance
Point of Rental Software recommends the most secure method of processing credit card payments, but understands with increased security comes reduced functionality. Processing credit card transactions with end-to-end encryption, a.k.a. point-to-point encryption (P2PE), is not a PCI DSS requirement; however, if you use the soft terminal it expands your PCI scope. The merchant must perform the PCI self-assessment indicating they use both a certified P2PE solution, with Cayan Genius and an on-screen web terminal.
Point-of-Rental Software’s Rental Expert product is PA-DSS certified in compliance with your PCI requirements. Please note that PCI compliance is the responsibility of the merchant and includes more than your point-of-sale being PA-DSS compliant.
