What is a Super Category?

A Super Category is a group of individual item categories that are commonly used together on a single contract. For example:

  • A Wedding Super Category might include categories like tables, chairs, linens, and arches.
  • A Birthday Party Super Category might include tables, chairs, and inflatables.

 

While some items may overlap between events (e.g., tables and chairs), others are more specific. For instance, weddings typically do not include inflatables.

Super Categories help streamline customer selections, especially when using a Point of Rental-integrated website, by allowing customers to select an event type (like Wedding) and instantly view all related item categories.

A Super Category is a combination of individual categories that are regularly used together on single contracts. Weddings and birthday parties would be separate Super Categories, while they both share items like tables and chairs. The typical wedding does not include inflatables.

 

How to Create a Super Category

Step 1: Add a New Super Category

  1. Follow the path for your product:

    1. Expert: Program Menu > Configurations > Item Configurations > Item Super Categories

    2. Elite: Gear icon > App Configurations > Item Configurations > Item Super Categories

  2. Click Add.

         

  3. Enter the required information for the new Super Category.

         

⚠️ Leave the Web Tag field blank unless specifically instructed by the Point of Rental web design or support team. This field is used for web-specific functions, such as setting sort orders on your website’s catalog pages.

 

Step 2: Assign Categories to the Super Category

  1. While creating or editing the Super Category, click the Select Categories field.

      

  2. Hold the Ctrl key (or Cmd on Mac) and select all relevant categories that should belong to this Super Category.

  3. Click Select to finalize your choices.

💡 A single category can belong to multiple Super Categories. For example, the Chairs category might be used in both Weddings and Birthday Parties.

 

Example Use Case (POR Integrated Website)

When Super Categories are set up and integrated with your Point of Rental website, customers can:

  • Choose the type of event they're planning (e.g., Wedding).

  • Instantly see all available categories and items related to that event.

This improves the customer experience by helping them browse and select rental items more efficiently.
