Managing Photo Galleries for Integrated POR Websites

Overview: Users who have an Integrated Website have the ability to create and manage photo galleries directly on their POR server. Images can be added, removed, or edited in photo galleries any time without the need to directly edit your website; saving you time and money.

Example: Directory Structure with Images

1.   Confirm/Create the folder structure

§ In order to create and manage photo gallery pages on your integrated POR website (e.g. http://www.orbitpartyrentals.com/event-galleries.asp), you will be saving web-friendly photo gallery images directly on your POR Server in the following location:

C:\POR\WebContent\Site001\Gallery\WebPhoto\PhotoGallery

*Note: About The Folder Path:

§ If you do not see the subfolder Gallery, create it and the other two subfolders WebPhoto and PhotoGallery.

§ Replace C:\ with whichever drive your POR system is installed under, e.g. D:\, etc.

§ If you have more than one integrated website, replace Site001 with the correct site #, e.g. Site002.

2.   Organize your photo gallery into logical groupings

§ Under the ‘PhotoGallery’ folder, create subfolders for each of your photo gallery groupings, e.g. “Tents”, “Table Settings”, “Weddings”, “Showroom”, etc. or “Lawn and Garden Equipment”, “Heavy Equipment”, “Homeowner Equipment”, etc.

§ For each subfolder, create a corresponding .jpg file which will then be used as a clickable image on your website gallery page.

3.   Gather, organize and prepare your photo gallery image files

§ All JPG images must be resized to a web-friendly dimension e.g. 640x480 (preferred) or 800x600.

§ For a better user experience, it’s recommended that all images be created or cropped in landscape format, i.e. don’t mix & match landscape and portrait-oriented images.

§ Do NOT use special characters in folder names (i.e. no quotes, double-quotes, commas, #, $, &, etc.)

§ Do NOT use special characters in jpg filenames (i.e. no quotes, double-quotes, commas, #, $, &, etc.)

§ The images in each photo gallery will be displayed in alphabetical filename order.

§ Be aware of customer privacy when naming the JPG images (the names will be visible online).

§ Limit the number of JPG image files in each subfolder to less than 20 for a better user experience.

§ Pay close attention to duplicate or similar images in each gallery, as well as blurry images or poor quality ones.

§ Please be careful with your Gallery subfolders – if you accidentally delete them and “update website”, then your website’s gallery pages will be blank!

4.   Copy your JPG image files on your POR server

§ Copy the web-friendly JPG image files that you resized in Step #3 into their corresponding subfolders on your POR server under

C:\POR\WEBCONTENT\site001\Gallery\WebPhoto\Photogallery

§ Your nightly website update will pick up new images from your POR server and upload them to your website.

§ If your website does not have a gallery currently, you must notify the POR Web Design Team when you have completed Step #4.
