eCommerce | Managing Photo Galleries

Topics in this article include

Step 1: Confirm/Create folder structure

In order to create and manage photo gallery pages on your integrated POR website (e.g. https://www.a1partyfun.com/event-galleries.asp), you will be saving web-friendly photo gallery images directly on your POR Server in the following location:

C:\POR\WEBCONTENT\site001\Gallery\WebPhoto\Photogallery

Notes about the above folder path

  • Replace C:\ with whichever drive your POR system is installed under, e.g. D:\

  • If you have more than one integrated website or you’re running Mobile Workforce, replace /site001 with the correct site #, e.g. /site002. You can usually tell by looking in the sitexxx folders in your /webcontent folder - the one you want will already have a /gallery folder in it. Ask the POR Web Design Team if you’re unsure which folder is the correct one.

  • If you do not see the subfolder /WebPhoto, create it and the other subfolder /Photogallery.

Step 2: Gather/Prepare your image files

  • All JPG images must be resized to a web-friendly dimension e.g. 640x480px (preferred) or 800x600px.

  • For a better user experience, it’s recommended that all images be created or cropped in landscape format, i.e. don’t mix & match landscape and portrait-oriented images. If you must mix them, see the tip in Step 3: Organize your photo gallery into logical groupings and copy the image files to your server.

  • Do NOT use special characters in .jpg filenames (i.e. no quotes, double-quotes, commas, #, $, &, etc.)

  • Be aware of customer privacy when naming the .jpg images (the names will be visible online).

  • The images in each album will be displayed in alphabetical filename order.

Step 3: Organize your photo gallery into logical groupings and copy the image files to your server

  • In the Photogallery folder, create subfolders (album folders) for each of your photo gallery groupings, e.g. “Tents,” “Table Settings,” “Weddings,” etc. or “Lawn and Garden Equipment,” “Heavy Equipment,” “Homeowner Equipment,” etc. These will become the “albums” in your gallery on the website. In the A-1 example, their folders on their server are Item Spotlight- Canopies and Tents, Item Spotlight- Concoction Caravan, etc.

  • Copy the .jpg image files that you prepared in Step #2 into their corresponding subfolders on your POR server.

  • Limit the number of .jpg image files in each subfolder to less than 20 for a better user experience.

  • TIP: If you have a mix of portrait and landscape images, try to group the portrait-oriented images together after the landscape-oriented ones.

  • Pay close attention to duplicate or similar images in each gallery, as well as blurry images or poor-quality ones.

  • TIP: the first image in the album folder will be the image that shows on the initial gallery landing page as the representative image for the album.

  • Your nightly website update (or the manual “Update Website” from the POR Configuration menu if you’d like to see your changes immediately) will then pick up new images from your POR server and upload them to your website.

Ongoing Gallery Maintenance

  • To remove an album from the gallery, simply delete the folder from the server. But please be careful with your Gallery subfolders – if you accidentally delete them all from your server and update the website, your website gallery page will be blank!

  • To add a new album to your gallery, simply create a new folder in C:\POR\WEBCONTENT\site001\Gallery\WebPhoto\Photogallery and copy prepared .jpg images into it.

  • To remove individual images from an album, delete the .jpg file from the folder.

  • To add more images to an album, copy the .jpg file(s) to the folder.
